Default Trouble codes

I washed my bike on Sunday and usually cover the throttle body area with a plastic sack to protect the open air element of the big sucker. But I didnt this day cause of the oil spray all over and dripping out of the filter. I did everything else the same and dried it off etc. Put it away and didnt start it.

Forward to yesterday. I had enough of the oil blow by on the big sucker so bucked up for the SE Heavy Breather. I had to lift the tank to get the bracket off the throttle body. That was a pain since the tank was full.

Got everything installed and fired it up. Ran fine for about 2 minutes then the check engine light came on and it was idling badly. No throttle response. Yes limp mode engaged.

I tried to start it again and it barely would idle at 500 rpm. I turned it off and was upset of course.

Went back out about an hour or so later and it fired up and all was well. Took it around the block and figured wth mustve been a glitch. I had already made an appointment for next week as its the soonest it could be seen.

I let it sit over night and this morning went out and was gonna ride it to do some errands but yet again the same issue. Not happy at all!

I took the plug out of the throttle actuator and then cleaned it with alcohol, put some dielectric grease on it and put it back together then attempted to clear the codes. I got all cleared but one.

Here are the codes.

1. P0134
2. P0154
3. P1511
4. P2135
5. P0572
6. P0031

I got all cleared as said but P1511 which wont clear. I know its a TPS deal.

After this was done I fired the bike up and its great as it was but am I to trust it or is there still an issue? How do I clear the code? I dont want to take my son for a ride and have it go back into limp mode or anything. Should I keep the dealer appointment and have them clear it?

Thanks all!

Grrrrr. Just went to leave and same dang thing. Still throwing code 1511 and 0134.

Reset it again n was OK but don't trust it to ride it. Guess the grease on the pins didn't fix it.

Well the code not clearing could mean something completely different than water or corrosion in a plug that you have now eliminated. You said you worked on the bike? I would make certain that what you did is not giving you your issues. P1511 means your bike went into power management(Limp) mode, if I remember correctly.

Take your bike in & have HD check it out, sounds like your connector pins to your carb need to be replaced to the larger pin size, this happened to my bike and that is what they did to fix the problem.

It's called pin fretting where the outside covering of the pins from vibration rub until it looses the 5volt signal to the ECM which equals LIMP Mode.

You can try disconnecting the pin that goes into your carb to clean it and use dilectric greese to get it to where you can drive it into the service dept.

Just be careful when reseating the pins back so you don't do any damage to the connection.

Perform a search on google for hd Limp mode.
First check to see if you have any stored codes.

Yeah. I have pulled it off and put it back in a few times. Added more dielectric grease and attempted to clear out 1512 again to no avail. Seems like I can get it to run once well for awhile but if I shut of off and let it sit then its back to square one. Very irritating. Glad this is happening now and not in sturgis in several weeks.
Thanks all.
