Hey yall, started having an interesting problem today. the damn bitch, oops, bike, decided it never wanted to return to idle when i'd get out of the gas. even when i pulled in the clutch, it just kept turning rpms, cept it obviously wasn't getting to the wheel. i'd pull in the clutch, flip it of, n turn back on while i was still moving and it would stop, then would start happening again, usually after about 10-15 miles. also noticed my check engine light would come on at start up and stay on for like 10 secs then it would go off... ideas? other thing, when i came to a complete stop, it would idle really high for about 5-10 secs before it finally came down to normal
i'm a bit perturbed
your check engine light comes on during ecm self check. It's totally normal.
It could be the CPS as stilup mentioned, but also you could check your throttle cables and the wheel thingy on the throttle body for dirt or grime that may be preventing it from reaching the stopper. And I know this sounds ridiculous, but check the little star nut under your throttle grip, they don't need much to cause your throttle to hang.
ok, well, i went through and figured out what the problem was, ran the diag through the speedo, it told me the idle was off, was like no **** sherlock, i already knew that. made a few calls to a couple friends, and they said check my IAC. Sure enough it was. pulled it out to replace and when i checked it out, it was covered in oil, likely from me applying to much oil to my K&N when i cleaned it out and re-oiled it. used some MAF cleaner, and it cleaned right up, thew 'er back in, cleared the code, and no more problem! live and learn.
on a side note, when also cleaned my whole intake as well as the the throttle body, and i actually picked up a lil throttle response too!
yeah, no problem! Followed up with it on here cause, well, if ya dont... it wont help the next guy that has similar issues but may not have the same connections i do to figure it out!
You probably figured this out already, but you don't need to pull the IAC to clean it. Use throttle body spray on the inside of the tb where the IAV lives. Cycle the ignition a couple of times to move the motor up and down so you get all of the crud.
