Default Critical fasteners

Ok I did a search and didn't find this specific answer:

All of the service checklists reference checking "critical fasteners." Anybody have a list of these "critical" fasteners?

I don't have an exact list, however I have always considered critical fasteners the bolts that are all over the engine that if allowed to come loose can cause leaks and all kinds of unhappiness. I generally get a good idea of the torque spec's and work my way around the bike and if I find one that's kinda loose, I will torque them.

That would be very helpful if I had a manual.

As Dawg stated above it is in your service manual and list them specifically with torque specs. Mine is an 05 and it is in the general maintenance section which is the first section of the manual like page 1-56 or so. Most of the critical fasteners by the manual deal with the brakes, axles, controls and steering. Good luck.

Tisk, tisk, that should be on your list as a necessity. See attached.

the tranny end cover bolt torque has been changed to 25 ft lbs. this can be a source of leaks/seeps. esp. the 2 bolts which mount the exhaust.

Anything that can kill you if it comes loose is a "critical" fastener

Thanks mkguitar, I had read that before and have it marked in my notes, but it's important enough to bear repeating.
