Default Stage One Tuning

I am doing as much homework as I can to prepare for a Stage 1 on my 02 Ultra. Plan at this point is to go with VH Monster Ovals and AN Big Sucker or SE. I want the upgrade for two reasons - better sounding pipes and HP. I seriously doubt I will ever make any other mods - this is a one time deal.

The question is about what to do after the hardware is installed. I spoke with a local mechanic (great reputation) about this. He said the HD download really only addressed fuel flow. He recommended adding a PC II and doing a dyna and custom map - around $750 out the door. Considering the pipes and kit will run close to a grand it is about out of the question for this much $$$.

So:
*HD download an call it quits
*Have the guy do the full deal @ 750
*Buy and install at PCII and do it myself
*Other wisdom from all you guys who are smarter than me

Thoughts?

I've always been happy with the Stage one set up and the HD Download. I've never done motor work so for me it's been the perfect set up. The HD Download is $150 and it's a "part" so if you can a discount on arts with your dealer you will pay less than $150 for the download. Ive done the stage one set up and download on all my Harley's and I've never regretted the set up.

Good luck with your choice.

Ride safe,

T

as my sig suggests, needs nothing else because it's just that good.

I have ran the HD Download for 3 years and I don't have any complaints. However, here is a PCIII on ebay for about the same price. Fact is....the download is still lean and I always wondered the difference.

in case you want to look http://www.ebay.com/itm/POWER-COMMAN...093f23&vxp=mtr

I recently did the stage 1 upgrade to my SG. I contacted Fuel Moto and got a great deal on the stage 1 air cleaner assembly and a Power Vision. Because I bought it from them, they put a tune in it for my combo and they said as I make changes in the future, they will send me different maps if needed. I cant recommend enough to give Fuel Moto a call. I got a seat of the pants difference in power from the stage 1 and PV.

Thanks guys,

UJustLost - grip it and rip it is what I am looking for. With the map already loaded on the Fuel Moto unit was the whole thing plug and play for a guy with a full set of tools and some basic smarts? Looks like I can get everything in one shot from the Fuel Moto site and install it myself.

That's gonna be your best bet. Preset all three items from FM and install it yourself. Fuel Moto is a great company to deal with. They have an awesome reputation around here for a reason

Good advice here only one thing hasn't been mentioned. I'm told a stage one download will not violate the warranty. I find it hard to believe that a PC with O2 eliminators would not. I have done stage one dowloads on previous bikes with good results (improved mileage and performance). Have not done it on a 96 or a 103 though. My dealer is recommending Download+SE intake + V&H four inch slipons. Told him I don't want too loud.
