Default 96 Electraglide hard starting, bogging down, and dying when riding

Ok, here is what I have... 1996 FLHTCUI Ultra Classic Fuel Injected. Up to about a month ago it was running fine, no issues. Then it started having a problem starting (sometimes not starting at all). Then when it would start and I rode off it would bog down and die. I can sometimes pop the clutch and get it running again but, it just dies again. This will occur for the first 10 - 15 minutes and then it is fine. Then on other occasions, it fires right up and there are no issues riding at all. Anyone experienced this? It is very frustrating.

Check your fuel filter. It's a bit of a pain to access. The kit isn't cheap but it's well worth it. There are several You Tube videos demonstrating the procedure.

Ok, I think I have it figured out. I didn't realize that this machine would spit out codes from the "service engine" light. First code was a 56 (crankshaft sensor and or camshaft sensor). Since I didn't have the parts for that and had already bought some other parts, I took a chance and pulled the camshaft sensor (it was easiest to get to) and cleaned it real well from all the road grime that was on it. That solved the code that was being thrown out. While I was at it, I changed the fuel filter and checked, cleaned, and greased every electrical connection. Put it all back together and ran codes again. This time it threw out 14 and 15 (temperature sensors). I double checked everything and found one of the connections I cleaned to be loose. Re-secured it, put everything back together, and fired it up. It started and ran great. I checked codes one last time and everything was good. Hope it keeps it up. Thanks everyone for the help.

Glad you got it running. Hope it is all better now. You did a great job of checking the simplest things first, and working from there rather than playing "substitution mechanic".

Congrats. You da man. Hope it continues to run well for you. I have a friend that had a 96 UC. He wishes he still did as it was the best bike he owned to date.....
