I don't have the one that uses regular water, I have a Cool Vest, you put the packets in a freezer and they last 4-5 hrs, plus they still keep you cooler once thawed, but you don't get wet.
I have one and they work really well. One year it was mid to high 90's going to Sturgis and it did keep me cool. Had to re-soak it every 2 hours but it did keep me cool.
Im on my second one. THEY WORK! The last one I bought the directions dont use if it is not over 90* otherwise you can get hypothermia. Ive used it in 115* Az sun along with a camelback and never once felt dehydrated. I have soaked it in an ice chest when that hot. They come in long and short sleeve.

Where did You get the long sleeve version? Have'nt seen those.
They work good and last till the next gas stop in 105 temps. I carry a giant freezer baggy. Stop for gas go in the restroom and put the vest in the bag fill it half way with water close it up and let it lay flat for a couple of minutes and throw it back on. Then when im done I can throw it back in the back in the bag so it does not get anything else wet.
Also you need a mesh jacket over it so that the sun does not hit it but allows the wind to blow through to cool you down.

It took me years to learn how to dress in hot weather - I would suggest you join a BMW forum - Have you ever wondered how these guys could stand to wear coats - full face helmets - riding pants - everything all zipped up & it's 100 degrees out - I know you have seen them - I always figured they were crazy - besides the outer gear you have to have the right under garments - you can lower your body temp by 25 degree's with the proper riding gear - You just have to do a little home work.
At this point in my life I just can't take the heat anymore - - so I just park the bike when it hits 90 or 100 out - I take the Roadster with top up & air conditioner on!
What ever you do - don't try to ride in really hot weather in just jeans & a t -shirt - unless your a young guy who wants to look cool - tom
During the summer months of the high desert, we use them quite frequently. They do work and they work very well. I carry a dry bag with me during the summer and when I stop for gas, I will run inside the store and grab a liter of cold water and soak the vest in the dry bag for about 10 minutes. I see about an hour of usage out of my vest before it needs to be re-soaked again. I also feel that the new H-D cool vest does not work as well as the older one.
As mentioned, it's important to wear the proper gear over the cool vest as well. Exposed on it's own and it will dry out in no time at all. I wear a textile over mine and it does a great job of diffusing the air as hits the vest.
