put your service manual in the can,
read through it and get more familiar with your machine.
there is no problem asking "dumb questions" but this is on par with my pal who after 3 years owning a road king and complaining that it wouldn't easily go over 90 mph, had me modify and tweak his carb.
I returned from the test ride and said "It pulled great up to 85 then I went into 5th..." and his whole demeanor changed and he said "Fifth ?..."
He didn't know he had a 5 speed tranny...
