Default help with iphone hookup

I have a 2012 street glide and i want to hook my iphone up to my radio. I've read threads that say you can,t hook it up to your radio and some that say you can.i bought the radio shack wire part # 42-223.so i could go from iphone to the aux port.what am i doing wrong.my radio says nothing when i plug it in.Do i need harley to reprogram my radio?when i hit mode button i only get am,fm,wb and cd nothing saying aux even with phone plugged in.

Did you set the radio to Aux? Connector plugged in all the way? Should work fine!

this may sound dumb. but how do i put it to aux?

On my 08 I can do it with either the little selector switch by my right thumb (keep pushing it to cycle through AM, FM, WB, CD, AUX) or I can push the AUX button on the radio itself.

However, AUX only shows on the display if you have something (iPhone, iPod, etc.) plugged into the jack. (at least, that's how mine is)
