Default Adjust it or leave it?

I want to know if I should adjust my idle speed. Here is what's happening: When I start the bike in the morning (temp +/- 60), the idle speed goes to 1200 and stays there for about 20 seconds and then falls to about 850. Then I begin to ride. For about 20 minutes, every time I stop at a light my bike idles at about 850. After 20 minutes or so and from then on, it begins to idle at exactly 1000.

All good? Or is 1) the cold idle at 1200 too short a period of time and 2) 850 for that period of time a little low?

BTW, my bike is a 2000 FLHRCI

I have a 2000 Ultra and that's pretty much what mine does when its running correctly.

I've asked about the lower (850 or so) RPM's and they've always told me that's normal.
As long as it doesn't stall out and can live with it.

Have you done/changed your cam chain adjusters and/or intake gaskets?

Good to know - thanks.
not sure if this is what you mean, but I recently had the headers removed in order to weld a crack - I assume the indy had to replace the gaskets. The cam adjusters were changed out last year.

950 to 1050 proper warm idle speed on 88" and 95" Twinkies. Probably similar on 07 and later 96/103s. The slightly higher rpm means less strain on cranks.

You're over thinking things, just ride it. If you didn't have a tach (like most Softails) you'd never know it.

Resist the urge to blip the throttle while it's warming up. Not saying you are, but bliping the throttle could change idle speed before it would normally change due to warm-up. Not sure about the 20 second thing you described. My 2010 does not act that way. Once it's started, it stays up around 1200 to 1400 until it warms up then settles in around 900 to 1000. That takes nearly 2 minutes.

With a cold start mine always is higher that 1000 RPM. I think you're ok.

For start up, I do not blip throttle at all until the rear rocker cover is warm to touch.
from there ECM/tuner does its thing, idle is about maybe 1000 rpm or so-best guess as i have no tach.
