Default boom audio for FLHR

Well after tossing it around for almost three months now, I went ahead and bought the Boom audio windshield mount system. I also needed a new mp3 player to go along with this and also some way to get the mp3 player on the bike. Just figured I'd post my findings incase others are looking for the same thing.......

Lake Shore HD has the speaker and amp kit for $320, they also had the required relay kit for around $8. Total for both shipped to door was $355. MSRP on the speakers and amp alone is $400!

Next I bought a cheapo Phillips 8gb mp3 player from Wally world for $40 shipped

Last I was about to buy the Boom audio magnetic tank pouch from HD for $45 but searched ebay and found one from Shark audio that is almost identical to the Boom one for $23 shipped.

I guess it pays to spend some time shopping around. Total to have tunes on the Road King is gonna be $420. I'll install myself as soon as everything arrives. Not bad considering what you could spend not doing any research and just walking into the dealer blindly.

I chose the Boom audio since it is about the nicest looking (IMO) system on the market. Also because it has the handlebar volume and power controls unlike many of the other systems available that you have to adjust through the Mp3 player. Not to mention, it is one of the cheapest available options.

Very curious on how it looks and performs. Please do a review once it's up and running. Looking at something for my RK.

no problem. i will definately take pics and post my thoughts on it. I read a bunch of threads before buying so more information certainly can't hurt. Hoping LSHD will have it here this week. I have never ordered from them before so can't say how fast they ship.

well got the kit on wednesday from LSHD and the install went very well. The wiring is not as bad as most people make it out to be. To install one of these again would be very easy. Sound quality is excellent for only being 50 amps I can hear it loud and clear between 70-80mph. In town or around 55mph the sound is actually incredible for these small speakers. I am very impressed for the money. The system looks great on the bike and the wiring is not to intrusive. Plus I love the fact that I can take everything off if I want and to the untrained eye you would never know it was there. Here are some pics of the final product. I cleaned all the wires up today and made sure there was plenty of clearance for steering. I ran the input cord under the dash then up to the MP3 player so that I wouldnt have some ugly cord dangling over the tank all the time. When I disconnect the speakers I can just tuck the ends away and never know its there.

Default Love Mine

I have the same set up I did have some trouble using the tank pouch .I have a iPhone I use for tunes. On a 90 degree day it shut down in the pouch on tank. It is a safety feature on iPhone . Got to hot. Now I use a handlebar mount works find on a hot day. Boom audio works and sounds great.

Does the kit come with good installation instructions? I have a 09 RK classic with custom V&H big radius pipes, curious what the sound will be like. Any thoughts are appreciated.

you will be fine on the installation, you may have to reread the instructions a couple times but they work and are fine. I went through mine the day before with a highlighter and singled out what applied to my application. There is a lot of extraneous bull **** in there for the other models. I think thats what gets confusing....Sound wise you will be fine if you are gonna run a windshield. I hear it fine over my Kerker sometimes up to 85-90. Its not ball busting, ground shaking audio but it does the job.

Thanks for the input, sounds like these will work fine for me. I will keep you updated on the installation. I plan to buy them this week.
