Angry Navigation Interface

So today I installed the NIM in my '12 UC using a Road Tech 660 and as far as I can tell it just don't work. I mean no amount of messing with settings can I get any sort of directions coming through the speakers or headsets. The directions go through the little built in speaker. I'm not talking about the mp3 stuff, I know I need to plug into the aux for that. Near as I can tell, I have all the current software on both the head unit and the gps unit. I haven't pulled the outer fairing back off yet to check all my connections, but I checked them nineteen times before putting the outer back on.
Anyone have any ideas on where to start?

What position is your speaker switch in? You need to rock it until the light is on.

Check the position of your three position speaker switch ...

- In one position, everything comes through the speakers.
- In the second position, intercom and nav goes through the headset and music comes through the speakers.
- In the third position, every thing comes through the headset.

If you are in the second position and don't have a headset plugged in, you will only hear the music and no navigation directions.

I have the same set-up as you. Does your stereo mute when the directions should be given? If so, you can only adjust the volume of the directions when they are being given. That threw me.... until I read about it here on this forum.

Are you using the ZUMO fairing mount, which is then connected to the NIM?

I have never heard the directions come through the speaker on the unit, whenever it is mounted in the fairing mount/cradle.

I would suspect the mount or the wiring to the NIM. I believe I have read a few threads where the mount was the issue. It may be worth a search here.

Good luck with the fix. The system is pretty slick when it works properly.

I have tried the switch in all positions with no luck. I'll check the connection between the two. When I noticed it not working before I replaced the outer fairing I tried from the mount wiring to the aux on the front and had sound then. The little red led comes on on the nim.
Can anyone out there helped with their software numbers?

Another thing to check that is not listed anywhere in the instructions is the PHONE/NAV volume. Have the radio on playing music. With the speaker switch all the way to the rear and light on set a way point on the GPS and let it calculate the route. As soon as you hear the radio cut out hit the master volume switch on the left control. You will see PHONE/NAV show up in the screen of the HK radio. You can only change the PHONE/NAV volume while the NAV is giving directions.

To have MP3s or XM radio playing you need to have the AUX cable plugged into the front of the HK radio as stated in the instructions.

That's just it, nothing cuts out when the GPS does directions. The directions come just out of the GPS itself. I'm currently not too concerned with using the GPS as a mp3 player, I want the interface to work first.

If the radio never cuts out (mutes) and sound only comes from the GPS speaker, then the GPS unit and the radio are not "talking" to each other.

That leaves 3 possibilities. The NIM itself, the wiring between the two, or the mount.

It's a pain but I'd go back through and check the wiring and that the pins are all properly seated and making connections. If all that is good, I'd suspect a bad mount or NIM.

After that I would call Garmin. I had a problem with my GPS unit and they were helpful. They gave me a list of things to check and once I reported back my findings they immediately replaced the unit.

Good luck with the fix.

Then I would suspect one of the pins is not seated good.

Yep, pins are a pain to get seated all the way. Took me a bit to figure out how to unlock the connector to get the pins all the way inside.
