g'day all, am interested in everyones opinion on what i hope is just brake noise. it seems to come mostly from the front, i thought it might be a bearing but dealer says it's all ok. if i have motor and radio off and coast down a hill in neutral the scraping sound is way to loud. . you can actually hear it with the motor running. last bike did not do this. appreciate any thoughts. fistbump.:icon _bump1: sorry, just noticed these bump things and went a little crazy. :i con_bump1:
The stock brakes tend to "drag" a little on all Harley's, especially if they are new. The easiest way to make sure it's not abnormal is lift the bike and spin the wheel freely and listen to it go round. It should be a light brushing noise, and the wheel should spin at least 1 full turn on the front and 1/2 turn on the rear when you give it a decent push. They usually go a bit more than that, especially the front. The noise sometimes is louder and then quieter as the wheel goes around a full revolution.
If it is really grating the entire way, it could be misalignment of the rotor/caliper, sticking pistons, or some sort of fluid pressure problem. If this were the case the rotor could get very very hot, and possibly change colors.
thanks scuba man, that makes alot of sense. i just need to come up with a way to get the front end up. guitar man, i agree, i'm not steven king so i don't spin that good of a story. on a side note, i have just learned to play that new tune " Springsteen". fistbump.
Lyndall Racing Brakes..... My stock brakes drove me insane. New floaters, new pads. I had the calipers off ten times trying to figure it out. HD dealer said to rebuild the calipers.. Okay thanks... No thanks they work fine. Bought three sets of LRB's and the bike rolled out of the garage as quite as a BMW . Those brakes made all the scuffing noise go away. Finally something that works. Oh yeah they stop nicely too. Putting Galfer front lines on tonight. Switch them out. Done. Good Luck.
