Thanks to Mkguitar, I have already begun to work the "bank over" sensor issue and will report back.

Mine does the same thing, a 2000 FLHTC carb'd, very annoying. I have so far eliminated the MAP sensor and the kill/start switch. I'm leaning towards the ignition module and have ordered this kit TC88 EX Ignition Kit from here;

cheers

This one may be silly but it had me scratching my head for a couple of weeks. On my sport bike there was a switch for the kickstand that didn't allow the bike to start if it was in gear and the clutch not engaged. I would get up to around 8k RPM and the bike would shut down. The vibes at that RPM shook the kickstand loose enough to trigger the switch and shut down the bike. I haven't tinkered around the kickstand on the HD to know if there is the same kind of set-up but that may be one scenario. Good luck

no jiffy stand switch on his model- or the other guy posting about his.

the daytona twin tec is a good unit from what I hear- one of my pals ran one on his 2001 RK.

_ i just hope the rider posting has figured out the problem, rather than just replacing parts ($$$)

Idle air control, AIC, spray with some kind of cleaner, could be dirty and gummed-up

I had something similar and removed my vehicle speed sensor and cleans off the metal shavings from the tranny and has worked great ever since. This is an easy fix.

had smilar problem on a firends 2000 ultra fuel pump relay was bad intermittent for a while but finally went out , thre are 3 relays inder the seat at the rear if I remember it is the one on the dar right as you are in riding position , there pretty cheap I replaced all 3 relays under the seat in that area while I was doing it and it was under 20 bucks for all 3. Speed sensor and bank indicators are all good area to check too. has it thrown any codes?

This also happens as a result of the main circuit breaker overheating, or the crimps/terminal ends that connect the wires to the main circuit breaker get corroded. Harley went to an inline relay located behind the left side panel in 04, I am sure as a result of this problem. On two different 03's I have replaced the main circuit breaker (located under the seat, just in front of the battery), with an inline 40A fuse and fixed a similar problem. Only costs a few bucks and about half an hour and you never have to worry about it again. Make sure you clean the terminal ends with sandpaper and spray some WD40 on the crimped portions of the terminal ends also.

You said this has been happening since the bike was new. My 03 did the same thing twice when it was new. Took it in for warranty and they increased idle from 1000 to 1050 rpm. Never happened again.

The circuit breaker was one of the first things I considered. The bike had the 40A to 50A conversion when the HD TSB fix was issued. I have heard that if the circuit trips I would likely lose everything, lights, electrical gauges, etc.... is this correct? With my particular situation the power stays on to all electrical instruments and the ignition itself seems to just "shuts down". I can re-start the bike almost instantly, without cycling the electronics and it starts & runs perfectly until the next occurrence. Is it correct to make an assumption that if power continues that it is likely not an ignition switch problem?
