Default Tuners - conflicting recommendations

I've got the new 2012 SG Big Blue Pearl and I'm about to do the stage 1 upgrade. Going with the air cleaner, Reinharts, and either the V&H 2-1-2 or Jackpot headers. But the programmer decision is tough. Here's what I have been told.

Super Tuner from the HD with Dyno - dealers say it's the only way to go, any dealer can work on it. Dyno is the only correct way to set it up. They said the PCV piggy back doesn't work well with drive by wire on the new bike.

Super Tuner from non Dyno dealer - its the only way to go.. Drive it, re download and your ready to go. Dyno not necessary.

Fuel Moto. PCV I can save some bucks with the Fuel Moto package that I would install, they seem very competent. but the others have made me nervous about the piggy back programming approach. And nobody local uses PCV.

ThunderMax -spoke to them at Laconia Bike Week. Auto tune on the fly makes sense, but it's by far the most expensive option. He suggested a Dyno is a tough thing on the motor.

I'm no engine tinkerer and no thoughts I'd go beyond this stage 1. I want simple and dependable.

Are any of these choices bad choices?

TTS, SEPTPRO, or dynovision and the best dyno tuner to set it up. Any of these 3 will reflash your ECM and you will not have anything hooked up to your bike. Make sure you find the right guy to dyno tune....most of the time it isn't the HD dealer

I think you're overlooking the best option for a guy like you describe yourself (and me too).

Call Fuelmoto and get the new Dynojet Power Vision. No piggyback, just hook it up and flash your ECM with the tune FM put on it for you. Nothing could be simpler and their tunes are great.

I've read as many posts as I can find on this subject (must be in the 100's) and I'm going with the FuelMoto Power Vision. It seems that most (I said MOST) dealers won't tune your bike outside the EPA limits so it will still run too lean. The guys at Fuel Moto are very knowledgeable and great to deal with. Just waiting on the $ to do mine. Oh, and Fuel Moto will also give you new maps as needed if you do any other changes and won't charge you for them should you go with them. Just my .02 cents. YMMV.

The Power Vision is also on my radar. It does seem like a good option. Does it refine it's maps from data collected by riding the bike?

yes it does make new maps based on logs from driving

It comes down to what you want it to do, and how much you can spend. If you want to be able to jump in and participate in manipulating any or all the tables that should play into the equation. If money was no option I would have gone with the Thundermax, however money is always a consideration and I had to prioritize what I need it to do....so I went with a Power Commander 5.

The only reason the dealer wants you to get the sert is because it's hd. The pcv works just fine. I used it on my 09 sg and am using one on my 12 limited. Fuelmoto will give you free maps for any change you make. It's super simple. And works perfectly. And unlike the sert if you sell your bike you can use the same pcv on your next bike.

I went with an arleen ness big sucker, vance & hines true duals, twin slash mufflers, and the fuelpak tuner. The guys at vance and hines have dynoed the hell out of these set ups and have a very good tune figured out. With the fuelpak you don't have to use their headers or their mufflers as they can give you the set up as per your installed parts. I am totaly happy with this and would recommend this for a stage 1 anytime. I have let some of my friends with similar bikes ride mine and they all think it runs great. By the way I have a 2012 limited.............good luck, anything to get rid of that cat is a good thing.....later....mark

+1 on the Power Vision. I went this route and have NO regrets. Fuel Moto helped on this unit and they have some excellent maps. I haven't had a single problem with the map they sent me. Do yourself a favor and give them a call.
