I think I will tackle it myself then. I have read a few detailed articles about this and it made sense to me. I also read that if using the SE gearset, you don't need an aftermarket cpeedo calibrator. True?
What else should I do while in there? I'll be adding a BBK later this spring shooting for 100/100 #'s. What about the clutch?
True; speedo recalibration is not required. Had a stealer do this as a part of a winter "we don't have enough work to do so we'll make you a deal" promotion that involved the 95" kit and SE 6-speed a year and a half ago. The tranny didn't come out and the gearset was replaced as SubZer0 mentioned.
Hey there fellas how you all doin there ? I have to agree with Hawkeye the dealer is not charging me for the install of a whole tranny, one is the winter is here and second they are going to put it thru a warranty oil leak. No charge.
I went to the dealer and got a price for the SE 6 spd..1995.00 plus tax around 700.00 to install. While I was there parts dept gave me a copy of the instruction on how to install the gear set. Remove the primary chaincase cover. Remove the clutch assembly, primary chain, and compensating sprocket components. Remove the starter jackshaft assembly and primary chaincase. Just some of the first part on the instructions. There is a drill plate that is provided with the gear set that attaches to the top of the side door flange You have to start with a 3/8 " drill bit and progressively enlarge the fork shaft hole till it is 3/4". It will be necessary to make sure all metal shaving are removed and cleaned out of housing. There are seven pages to the installation instructions and look pretty straight forward. I am plannig to putting a 6 spd on my 01 Ultra. Good luck with yours
Thanks for the info. I'm going to install it myself. Not just to save some money but to learn how my bike works.
Now back to the clutch upgrade????
