Well it looks like I will be ordering the SE 6 speed gearset. I'd tackle the install myself but don't feel too confindent with the tranny. What would one expect to pay for labor of installing this into my current 5 speed case?
That is to switch out the tranny , to take apart the tranny and change the gears I would guess at least 8 to 10 hours labor. Maybe you could save a few bucks if you take them the tranny and then reinstall it yourself. I have not done it on a twin cam , but I have done a few evo jobs.
wedo it at the dealer i work at.you pull the old set out the bigest part of the install is you need the cut your trans case so it will fit the 6 speed..its easy..it comes with a template you use to cut and make room for your 6 speed..make sure you dont get any metal chips in the trans..the dealer is a rip off they charge 10 hours at$80.00 an hour....just do it yourself.good luck
Well when it comes to cars, I'm very mechanically inclined having built several for the drag strip. I'm just new to HD and never opened up a tranny. I do have a service manual. Do you think it is something that I could handle? If so, I'll give it a shot. Worse case is me just taking the tranny in to a shop for them to install the gearset.

Also, I have a dremal with carbide bits. I once ported a set of mustang heads back in the day. I should be able to cut the case with this.
Does the SE gearset require the speedometer adjusted with something like Dakota Digital?
if you did cars you can do it...once the exhaust comes off you pull the trap door on the side of the trans and all the gear set comes out in one shot...you need to trim the case and slide the one one in...the biggest thing is yoou might have to buy a few tools to do the job...but then you will have them and if you need to do work on the trans again.....
