I change the Primary with my motor oil at 3k and the tranny once a year, don't care what the manual says let the MoCo pay for a new power-train.

On an air-cooled engine, I take no chances for the little extra cost.

Engine: 3-3.5k
Tranny: every other engine oil change
Primary: every third engine oil change

I run Amsoil 20w-50 for the engine, Amsoil severe gear for tranny, and HD primary for the primary.

to make it easier for me to remember, i do it this way:

engine/primary: every 5k
transmission: every 10 k

engine oil for the engine
rotella t 10w40 for primary
redline shockproof heavy for tranny
