Hummm...that's interesting. I have that problem with my Sporty, but not the Ultra. I just use 1x4 with the Sporty.

Make sure you have the extensions of the lift. The rubber part that goes under the bike pulls of the lift to give more clearance.

The rubber part I was referring to would be the rails.

1) I push the jack in as far as it will go,
2) grab the handle bars and slightly pull/rock it towards me and slide the jack under a little farther with my leg.
3) Walk around the other side to make sure it's past the frame and start jacking. NO PROBLEM.

I do wish I had a better jack though.

Yep, works that way for my Ultra too.

I have had this jack for 5 years and this is how I also do it. No issues with the jack and I like how it lifts and lowers with the foot so I can hold onto the bike. Some lifts require you to lift and lower with your hand - no thanks!

So stand on the right side of the bike and grip the right handle bar just in front of the master cylinder with your right hand and pull it upright.
I used to have to roll the front tire up on a 1X4 until I discovered this method, works for me, very easy.

Had my jack for 8 years. It was a bigger problem for my Honda Shadow because the engine was lower than the frame. Yes you have to pull the bike up but it doesn't take much.

Regarding the hydraulic cylinder, it says you can't add oil but you can. I Googled it years ago and found instructions how to top off the oil and bleed the air out.

The only problem I have with lifting my limited is finding the sweet spot that lifts the bike evenly front to back.

I solved my problem with the infamous Sears red jack by giving it away. Bought a J&S and have not regretted it.
