I have the Brukus kit and love it, BUT, reading about the **** bolts made me go down to Menards, where I found 4 **** bolts in 5/16"x18. Much easier than carrying the special security allen wrench around. Great mod!

Hmmm....moding a mod.

Sounds like Brukus makes a good product, but until this thread I never considered anyone stealing my saddle bags or having them blow off while riding.

I have had mine separate to the point they would not latch together and had to squeeze the ears with pliers. That is when I was glad to learn of the Brukus products. Ya think Harley uses the same quality metals as the military or a person custom building a funny car? Think again.... This is not an attack in any way but my own observation and experience.

This is exactly what I did too. 1 on each side. Cost less than $5.

Same here. (4) 1/4- 20 stainless steel allen's and (4) U-nuts.
Actually about $10 bux. maybe $12.
They take a little bit to get off though, not as handy as the *****.
You don't have to worry though about losing your "special little wrench."

Having the ***** kind of defeats the purpose, if using them as a theft deterrent. While they may be much more convenient, it only takes a second to pop the back side brackets and open the bag. My local indy showed me this when I forgot my keys at home !! So with the *****, they now have the contents and the highly resalable bags !
Yes, I run the Brukus hardware, and yes, they can still get the contents. But without the "tool" they aren't getting my custom painted bags. With the loctite on the Brukus hardware, it takes awhile to remove them, even with the tool.
Nothing is foolproof, but why make it easy ?

Well, unless the thiefs are carrying allen wrenches, they ain't gonna get mine either.

I'd venture it would be fairly safe bet that not too many thiefs that are going to grab and run carry allen wrenches on their person, and are willing to take the time to get each bolt off.

I still don't need any special little wrench either.

So not only can the bags be stolen by prying the stock pins on the back with a screwdriver, your telling me they can pry open the lid even if its locked and steal the contents and while they have the lid open all they have to do if they have the time is just undue the bolts and take the whole bag to, WTF Harley? I dont know about you but I carry a tool roll in one bag that has everything including Torx, Allen, wrenches etc. Thieves dont need to carry any tools, from what I've seen a lot of Harley owners especially pnes that have bags carry their own. What a great design, must be so they can sell more new ones.

Brukus kit is good. I got one then used it as a pattern to go down to the hardware store and buy what we needed to make a set for my buddy. Cost 6 bucks. But if you want the peace of mind just order the Brukus kit for 20 or so bucks.
