Default New Wheels - looking for feedback

For the first time in all my years of motorcycle, I'm seriously planning to do wheels.

Looking around, I'm debating the HogPro Deviate or the Performance Machine Luxe, and have been talking with HogPro about both.

I want to do 19 x 3 front and 17 x 6.25 rear. I'm told I have my choice of Metzler ME880 or Avon Cobras (120/70 - 90 front and 200/50 - 17 Rear (Metzler) or 200/55 - 17 for the Avon).

My question is for folks who have done the same or similar, what can I expect? Handling changes, ride height, ride quality, etc? Any feedback Re: Hogpro wheel vs. PM wheel? Any feedback RE: Metz vs Avon tire? Will the 200 in the back change much? What should I expect to be charged to install it all?

Just doing wheels and front rotors. Not bothering with rear disk or pulley, can't see them anyway.

Thanks!

subscribing... i wanna see where this goes.. I've been considering a wheel upgrade myself for some time and , as uncommon as it is, i plan on doing the same size combo.... I like where your head's at...

p.s. how frustrated are you that NOONE else but HD makes a 19x3.5 front wheel?

picked up my RC Component Prowler wheels today. 21" w/Metzeler 120 on front and 17" w/ Metzeler 200 on the back with matching rotors. Can't wait to get them on.

Got a helluva packaged deal from Eastern Performance.

I am interested in this thread too. The Metz 200 rear is a radial and the front is bias ply. Just curious as to feedback given that all the tire companies warn against mixing radials and bias tires. Also, bias tires have a stiffer side wall and will hold up better under a high speed flat vs. a radial. Any issues or concerns on these 2 factors?

Why not go with an 18" wheel in the rear instead? If you're going to pay that much for a custom wheel I think you should be able to see it. I don't think you can run a 200 on an 18" though.

I am going with a 19x3 and 18 x 5 out back High Rolla from Pickard should be here Tuesday. I picked the same rim/tire size combo as the CVO street glide, thought it would be a safe pick didn't want to change the ride too much. This is a great website to compare tire sizes and hieght http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/tirediamcalc.html

Also,...about the tires. I went with Avon Cobra tires when I went to my 21"/18" wheels. I didn't get very much mileage out of the rear tire. Very little as a matter of fact. I replaced the rear tire with a stock HD Dunlop D407 180/55B18 (stock on the CVO SG). Two reasons for this. The first was for increased mileage and the second was for the higher load rating. If you run a 19" on the front and go with an 18" on the rear (and stay with a 180) you can run the stock Dunlop tires that come on a CVO SG. There are several benefits to doing this. As I said before, you'll get more mileage and keep the stock load ratings, but you'll also be able to get a replacement at a Harley dealer if you happen to have tire probelms on the road. Most HD dealers will stock these. Not true with the Metzlers or Avons.

my guess is that this guy is a stickler for details and has done his homework... he's read enough of the negative posts about the 18/200 combo to turn him away...and he's got his heart set on a 200 rear so he's going 17"
I'm betting he is also aware that most 18" rear set ups actually raise the rear of the bike, although its slight.... a 200/17/50 should actually end up setting the rear end a little bit lower then stock...again we're talking fractions here but if this guy is anything like alot of us...just knowing the difference exists is enough to sway his decision

just to clarify the CVO Street Glide front wheel is 19x3.5" not 19 x 3".....this is THE ONLY 3.5" wide 19" wheel made. which in my opinion sucks cuz i think the 19 is a great front wheel size for the touring bike..its the max you can do without having to mod to correct the geometry of the bike (i.e. lower the forks)
This is something i've been wresting with for a while... cuz i WANT a 19 front but NOT an 18 rear... and the AGITATOR is the only 19 wheel made that is the same width as stock 3.5" touring rim ....BUT it only comes with an 18" rear to match.
F.W.I.W. the boys at HOGPRO say that the 130/19 Dunlop tire that comes on the SESG will mount up to a 19x3" aftermarket wheel...they've done it a few times..i think there is a pick on thier site of a Roadie with a 19x3 front running the DUnlop 130/19 tire.

P.s. SWEET wheel choice...the chrome on that sould EXPLODE in the sunlight with all those angles on the spokes
