I bought a new 2010 Ultra almost 2 years ago to the day. First time for a tour pack but was afraid if I bought a street glide I would be sorry I didn't get the Ultra. After returning from a 3,000 mile trip a few weeks ago I decided to pull the tour pack off. I felt like I had found my long lost friend, I always just had hard bags before this bike. I buffed out my rear fender marks the stock seat left and I'm getting ready to order a Solo seat with backrest.I have had a terrible time deciding but it looks like it will be a C & C, already ordered parts to relocate antenna.Like someone said you just have to set them up the way you like them.I personally like everything on the Ultra except the look and top heavy feel of the tour pack.
To each his own. Both bikes have their own purposes. If I did mostly touring, I would have an Ultra Classic. It has a softer ride and holds more stuff, but is top heavy and less nimble than the Street Glide.
Most of my trips are day trips with the occasional weekend trip to the beach or the mountains. For what I do, the Street Glide is perfect for me. It is sporty, easy to handle, and I can throw on my backrest and/or luggage rack when I need to.
Went from an 06 FXSTI to the 2012 SG so from no bags to two from no shield to a fairing! I am a retired motorcop and the SG gives me that road hugging ride I love and the slow speed handling I am used to! I changed out the 4" for a 7" wind screen and I love the stereo way more than the police radio lol! The great thing about a Harley is that you can make it your ride no matter which model you start with!
I say..
Ultra says your married & the OL rides with ya
Street Glide says your happy and you don't over pack.
Make it yours, But I just don't get people saying hopefully this is the last bike or car or iPad you'll ever own. I dont get it, I want to upgrade every few years for the latest greatest everything. Women too!
Althought my 85 Electra Glide was my first HD and was a fun bike, a head turner too...I'd hate to be riding that every weekend for 400 mile days
I actually just traded my sg for an ultra limited. I miss the look and coolness of my sg but enjoy the room and convenience of my ultra. Especially when it comes to touring with the misses. Just wish it would cool down a little out there so I could enjoy it more.
Sorry, the bumpers, running lights, seat with armrests with speakers and King Pack scream, sorry, announces, "Old Man", even females that know and don't know bikes say the same thing.
A chopped tour pack looks nice, if you need more room, add a rack and smaller bag on top. Looks real nice.
Lowers can be added, taller shocks, and you're all set.
