Group Ride Frustration
I was taught to never run so far ahead that you can't see the rider behind you from trail riding in my youth just in case one of the riders behind you has a problem.
We stayed together until we hit the highway and then my 2 buddies took off going well above the speed limit. not knowing how to get to our 1st meeting place I kept up with them but hung back at least 20 car lengths to try to get them to slow down alittle so the other riders could catch up.
Fortunately my buddies and I got held up at a traffic signal and everybody caught up to us.
I moved up to the leader (My Buddy) and told him that he needs to watch me in his mirrors because of the other riders where falling back at the speed he was running. He agreed and rest of the way to the 1st meeting place went without a hitch.
At the 1st meeting place we where sitting at a picnic table shooting the bull and having a cold one when I noticed that one of the club members was missing. I ask where is he and his buddy told me his bike started to leak oil and he was going home. I ask his buddy to call him to make sure he made it home ok since we where only 20 mins away from my house and I could get my truck and haul his bike if it need be hauled. Fortunately he made it home.
After I telling everybody how I rode trail riding we agreed to ride that way the rest of day and we had great time and we ran at least 5mph over the speed limit on the highway.
Next time I go on a small group ride I'll try to remember to bring up my technique on keeping the group together before we start.
