I keep reading all of these posts about re-gearing the specifically taller geared 07-08 model years. I currently own a 2008 Roadking & everything said about being tall geared is 100% spot on. Also, I keep seeing IDS? What is IDS?
I have read things about doing it this way will disable the cruise control or if it's done this way you lose the 6th gear indicator. This way you can re-use your drive belt but this way the belt is too long\short. Confusion would be an understatement.
So with this said, can you replace ONLY the rear pulley & make 6th gear more usable (lower) & retain use of the cruise & 6th gear indicator light?
IDS is isolated drive sprocket which the 08 has standard. Therefore, if you get the Japanese sportster pulley it also has the IDS
OK...So if I go with the Japanese sportster pulley is that ALL that is required? Will my cruise continue to work & will the 6th gear indicator continue to work? I saw you were one of the many commenting on an earlier thread about the gearing.
With the Japanese sportster pulley (Rear, correct?) I'll need to press out the bearing & replace with my current bearing & all will be right in the world as far as functioning & this will lower all of my gearing making 6th gear a little more user friendly? What about the drive belt. Can you still use the oem length belt?
Cruise and 6th gear light won't be affected, but your speedo might read a little higher. It reads off anyway from the factory compared to a GPS. You can correct it with some tuners or a Dakota Digital doohickey. Not 100% sure on reusing the stock belt, can't remember. I did comment on the gearing as mine too sucked. I used a 30 tooth sprocket in place of the comp, but ended up swapping that out for an SE comp as it was a little too much. I then went with the 49 tooth ring gear conversion and love it. I had lost the 6th gear light but gained it back with the TTS and also adjusted my speed with TTS as well.
