I have done multiple 400 mile days when the bike was stock... No worries there.
The top three upgrades for distance were bars, cruise control and highway pegs. A seat would be nice as well but I haven't done that just yet.
I also did progressive 940's, touring link and monotubes.
Knowing what I know now all of the above upgrades would be done before I did a stage 1 air cleaner / pipes on my bike.
The bike in it's current configuration is capable of comfortable 600 mile days.
Ah you have a point, I had my bars rotated back to the furthest back and lowest position possible. I also have the adjustable SE shocks which were a huge improvement on the standard air shocks of my previous Ltd
My husband and I used to have an 09 SG. The best things that helped me be able to ride long distances as a passenger were: ultra detachable tourpak, sundowner seat, passenger highway pegs, passenger floor boards, and a cup holder! We put about 27,000 miles on it, now our daughter rides it and we have an 11 Road Glide Ultra. I have long legs so the extra inch on the shocks helps.
Did 300 miles with the wife on it bone stock. After that she called quits. I wasn't allowed to buy anything else until I got her a seat. I bought a reduced reach seat from the moco for a great price on eBay. I'm kinda short so I like where it put my legs and the passenger section is like 15 inches across now so the wife digs it. Then a 500 mile to Colorado and when I got back I bought 40 dollar highway pegs. Me and the wife just did 2200 miles in 5 days on just those mods and we were great. Hell on the last night I was the one who gave in long before her or the bike did. If there was anything I wish I had on this last trip, it was probably a rider back rest just so I could bend backwards and pop my back occasionally. it all comes down to you and the wife and how much suck you are cool with. Good luck
2011 Street Glide. With the exception of luggage rack - bone stock. Rented it from the dealer for the trip cause the idiot who worked on my bike didn't finish it in time.
5000 miles in 11 days (10 riding days) last August:
Hickory, NC to Cooke City, MT
Day 1 - 750 miles
Day 2 - 980 miles (including detour)
Day 3 - 475 miles
Cooke City to Stugis (Several hundred miles around Sturgis)
Sturgis to Hickory, NC
Take your stock seat and send it to Mean City Cycles and have them install a gel pad and memory foam in the rider's seat and memory foam in the passenger's seat. And, put on a taller than stock windshield (at least 6").

Great tips on mods. I was figuring another seat for the wife. She's a sport so probably never complain, but was gonna do it anyway. The floorboards for her will happen too. I think I am gonna do a larger windshield and hwy pegs too. Pipes are odered, stage 1 soon to come and then we will see. Mustang and corbin seats seems to win the unofficial poll. I'll look into them. Thanks. Great hearing about the long distance rides too.
NJ to Myrtle Beach, close to 600 miles but it took 17 hours with 1/2 hour for lunch and again for dinner with gas stops when needed. Took so long because we took only secondary roads. Never used I95.
Only mods were a taller windshield and a Mustang solo seat with a Alaska sheepskin.
07 street glide and have done a 4 day 2200 mile blue ridge trip a couple of times first time on a totally stock bile. Last year 7 day 5000 mile Colorado trip. For comfort and convenience on trips I have added a sundowner seat, taller windshield, removable tour pack, highway pegs & lower fairings. For a little added power high flow air cleaner & slip-on mapped with power vision. No problem riding this machine 500 mile days regularly.
