Took a 1600+ mile road trip a few weekends ago from the Cleveland, Ohio area down to the Tail of the Dragon. Great trip, my '11 FLHR performed great. To make a long story short, the other guys in our group all had louder pipes than mine, and I couldn't hear my exhaust at all. They were running: 2 into 2 big rad (Fat Boy), short shots (Fat Boy), and true duals on another road king. I bought the bike used, and always assumed my V and H twin slash round slip ons had quiet baffles installed. It is very easy to talk at normal volumes at idle, and running in a group you cannot hear them at all. This morning I pulled the slip ons and baffles, only to find V and H's standard baffles installed. Called their tech support to ask if they made any louder baffles, they said no. I am also running a SE A/C and Fuelpak. Besides a whole new exhaust (not spending money on slip on's), what options do I have to add some more growl to my exhaust note? What if I wanted to run without baffles? Any input is greatly appreciated. Ride safe.
Cat removed?? if you remove the baffles you will probably want to install torque cones as you will loose alot of low end torque. Thats the set up I am currently running and it pulls significantly better than stock...and it sounds awesome imo..
I just put these in my V&H 3" Fishtail IIs (after pulling the baffles out)... Sounds DEEP and MEAN! I bought them as a whim figuring for $20 what could I possibly lose?
Very Very happy with the results I got, plus 20 mins I can put the baffles back in if ever I want, best of 2 worlds :-D
You can experiment with removing some or all of the fiber glass wrapping on the baffles. The fiberglass sheets are sold everywhere (Denniskirk, Amazon, etc.) and run $8-$20. Try removing it all to gether and then add, and see if you can get the right sound.
Changing your head pipe from stock to true dual will significantly increase the sound. Likely will lose some low end torque. A good tune might bring it back.
+1 on changing the head pipe, by doing this you will have a true Stage 1 upgrade. You already have the Fulepak as a tuner and I'm sure maps are readily available for your configuration.
