What do you guys recommend for a replacement windshield on a 12 Streetglide? The 4.5 inch looks great but a lot of buffeting and not much weather protection. I definitely want to look over the shield. Thanks for your opinions.
I use an 8.5" Klockwerks windshield on my Ultra. It works great for me. It throws most of the wind over my head. No buffeting at all. Most of the weather (rain) I get is the rain that pushes around the windshield from the wind and drips into me off the edges of the windshield.
I'm 6'0" and look over the top of my 8.5" Klock. I would buy the same windshield again. I'm very happy with it.
Good luck, you're going to get a lot of opinions on windshields.
You'll go thru several more then likely, a happy medium for me is a 6" clearview recurve shield, which works nice for everyday around town short dinner trips and still looks good. On long trips I ended up with a 12" oem shield. Wouldn't trade that in, nice protection and can see over it. Tried to stay as short as I could for looks, but function won over, tried 6" 8" 9" and a windsplitter. Also look into the fork baffle, and the wings for the fairing. I can't get over the looks but some swear by them. Its not just the air coming over the windshield, the air also comes around and up under the fairing creating the mixing or buffetting. Thats the bi^&#H.
Just find the right combo that suites you.
A taller recurve shield and some wings ought to help your buffeting nicely. Just make sure you get a shield that's the right height. It's possible to get it right the first time so you don't have to try too many. : ) Check out our website for a good video on measuring for the right height shield if you're so inclined!
