Don't pay a premium for the anniversary model. H-D milked that for all they could and the model year ended up longer than 12 mos.

There was an issue with early 05 valve seals. A buddy has an 05 and it didn't show up until about 15K. Find out if they have been replaced or if the bike was built after the date given on the Service Bulletin.
I'd go for the 05 if the issue is resolved.

Not sure but someone here should be able to help you. It has the build dates that were affected. The build date is on the frame of the bike.

Even if the 05 is a date with the affected valve seals and they haven't been replaced, I'd still go with that one anyway. Valve seals are a big deal. This bike is still newer and cheaper.

I have an 03 and I would go with the 05. My 03 has been solid but there were several changes I am sure from 03 to 05. The commom maintenance items on my 03 have been spongy front brake, muffler rubber mount replacements, and most recently the rear rocker box gasket replacement. All easily fixed. Inquire if the cam tensioners were replaced on either bike. That is a common problem for both . I went with the SE upgrade kit before they failed which could take out your engine. There may be specific problems with the 05 that you may want to look into. Either way these bikes run cooler than the newer ones which is a good thing. Good luck.

Color and mileage is the only difference.

If the 05 is truly a PE bike...hands down the better choice for added options that are above-n-beyond the std bike.
