Default Rim Width Question

Does anyone know if a 5.5" wheel will fit on an 05 electra glide standard???

I'm looking for someone with custom wheels that is certain of the size and fit.

Thanks
Danny

The widest rear you can put on that 05 Electra Glide Standard without making any major modifications is an 18x4.25.

One last question. When measuring that 4.25 is that outside to outside of the bead or inside measurement?

Rim width is where the tyre sits, so inside. I am in the process of squeezing in a 4.5" Deuce wheel, with a 160/70 tyre. It is the tyre width that is giving me a clearance problem, rather than rim width! Tyre measures 167mm wide fitted, just over 6.5", which in a 7" fender is very cosy! I think I've cracked it, but it isn't a simple bolt-in.

if you replace the belt and pulley with an 07 +wider fender or cover fender .5.5 rim and 180 tire will fit

So, you're saying the '09 up tire and rim (5.5" rim 180mm tire) WILL fit within the '07 - '08 fender and fender struts with no problems? I ask this because I found a thread on here where someone trimmed up an '09 fender to make this combo work on an '07 or '08 FLHX, but I can't tell if there were any other modifications to make this work. Modifications like belt guard removal, hub spacing or pulley spacing.

Using aftermarket wheels with custom hub machining will allow a 180mm tire to be fitted within the frame & stock swingarm. The stock fender can be fitted also, but would require some tweaking.

I opted for using the '09 up OEM tire and rim (5.5" rim, 180mm tire) on my '07 FLHP. The stock swingarm was widened to accept the '09 up wheel/tire/axle assembly with the help of custom spacers. An '09 up fender was sliced & diced to fit properly and provide the protection intended. I was able to run the stock beltguard. Very inexpensive and easy winter downtime mod. Just another option.
