If your worried about the Trans noise go for the Softail. I have an 07 FLHR and have the noise. I am hoping between the new download from HD and the PCIII I have, it will cure the problem.
I just went through this but with used models instead of new.I fell in love with the look of the Heritage.I fell in love with the ride of the RK. I've decided on a RK Classic to get both looks and a great ride. Good luck!
No contest...ROAD KING. As much as I loved my Fatboy, I'll never ride a Softtail full time again after the Street Glide. It's touring bike for me the rest of the journey.
That's why I came here to the touring forum. I figured if anyone knew about the noise problem witht he RK's they would be able to tell me how it was going...was the noise still a problem in the later builds, were there any fixes on the way, what had been tried, etc. As Madav8tr was suggesting, I was trying to educate myself. The people at the Softail forum probably don't know half as much about what is going on with the noise from the tourers as the riders here do. Thanks to those of you who had something constructive to say. Cornholio, I hope the fixes work for you. Maybe Mad can explain the noise problem to me since he seems to understand it so well.
Yeah I think you've pretty much made up your own mind the way you contridict everytime someone says something positive about the tourer you come back with a retorte. Like was said earlier in the thread good luck and enjoy your new softail.
As Madav8tr was suggesting, I was trying to educate myself
No, you were attempting to educate us. Big difference. To answer your question though, I can't offer an explanation on the noises some guys bikes make. Mine is perfect as are the vast majority of the '07's on the road. Some guys have noises, most don't. Back to the softtail, Get it, you know you want it. That way you can justify why you have a Heritage listed as your bike in your profile.
Mad... thanks for the info about the fact that some engines/trannies have the noise and some don't. And I'm sure my ignorance is showing since I don't know the difference between the compensator and the chanin tensioner. Wish you had the time to explain the difference -- that's what I meant when I said I was trying to educate myself. Didn't mean to get so many of you in an uproar. Wasn't trying to contradict anyone. I know that the tourer will be more comfortable for long rides. Maybe I shoud have just asked if any of you have had noise problems with your RKC's -- major noise problems.
