Default Oil temp

Put a Jaggs oil cooler in my 1997 Ultra Classic and removed the ambiant air temp gauge and replaced it with a oil temp gauge. After a 3 hrs ride and the last 16 miles being in extremely heavy city traffic with the bank signs flashing 96* I was quite pleased at the oil temp.

WOW ! My '97 stays at 180-185* normally. Hit about 190* when it was 109* ambient temp, but damn, you probably could chill beer on that !!

Those EVO motors sure run cool compared to the new models with all of the EPA regulations. I hate big over bearing government policies.

Kinda what I thought when I saw the reading. Man that's low. I thought oil had to get to at least 212 to vaporize the water out of it. Maybe the old school bikes are different.

I even went so far as pulling the dip stick out and running in a manuel 12'' stick oil themometer. The readings matched!

Hmmm ...... If your Jagg oil cooler has a thermostat like mine has, the oil doesn't flow through the cooler until the oil temp reaches 185F, which makes an oil temp of 130F or so even more hard to believe after riding 3hrs in 90F temperature.
I'm just sayin'.

My oil temp stabilizes at 190F-200F when cruising at highway speed and reaches 220F/230F in stop and go traffic. Again, I have an oil cooler too and my A/F ratio is on the rich side.
