Just curious - in hotter temps do you have your idle temp mgmnt system on or off. Does having it on really make much difference? Sounds and feels like the motor is missing when it kicks in.
As usual, appreciate all of the input and discussion.
Thanks.
Why would you turn it off? It only operates at idle so it does not affect performance. If it shuts down the rear cylinder when the temp is up at idle so be it.
I enabled the system a long time ago but since then I've disconnected the battery for some maintenance. Do I need to go through the enabling procedure again or does it stay active once you turn it on even if you disconnect the battery?
Personally, I leave mine off . I cant stand the stink. If traffic is that bad, I pull over.
It only kicks in when you're stopped. Put the bike in gear and the rear cyl fires up. How much does your bike really cool down in a minute with one cyl off?
I think it's just HD's way of appeasing people worried about heat.
I have never pinged in 90+ heat in NYC traffic.
But if it makes you feel better, by all means leave your on.
I Leave it enabled all the time. Got stuck in a jam and could tell when it kicked in as the temp on my legs wasn't climbing. Putting it is gear would not fire up my rear cylinder, but it would as soon as I gave it some throttle.
