Anyone know how to tell if a unit on the showroom floor has been updated at the factory? Sorry, dont trust the sales department to know if the rectifier has a bad one or not.
Do a search for 2012 voltage regulator and in at one of those threads is a link to the Harley service bulletin to dealers. It shows the number range of bad ones. Then look at the left side of your to see the week/year number and compare. The end of the bad numbers is 0912, for example.
The service writer should know, but I'll be amazed if he actually does.
He can look up the VIN number and check the actual number on the VR. It's his job.
The salesman will do neither and even if he knew, he porbably wouldn't tell you until you signed all the papers.
Ahhh. It's the regulator. Not the rectifier. I found the hd bulletin. Thanks.
I don't remember the exact dates but it bikes made between October and May. Pretty much evrything except Sportsters and V-Rods.
It was a bad batch of regulators from a vender and Harley couldn't figure it out for a while, so some bikes were being replaced with regulators from the same bad batch.
They figured it out finally.

I just checked mine and its 0912 74505-09. Does this mean i should get mine changed from the dealer? I thought i read somewhere that the range is 4011 - 1012. That if yours fits in this range it should be changed.

Go to HD's website and click on Owners and register your bike. Scroll down all the way on the recall/product info page and you should see a notice in there for your bike. Your number 0912 is in the group of VR's needing replacemt. May as well print out the Service Bulletin and have it in your back pocket when you go in. Good luck.
