Definitely poor grounding connection. The chassis of the speaker itself might need to be grounded as well if it is not.

I too had this issue some time ago. There is a crossover between the two speaker spade connectors. on one of my speakers this joint broke and was the cause of static when running. Prolly the vibration. Make sure the speaker crossover joints are tight and "sound". <- Yes, pun intended....
