i can add a few more pros. There are a lot more handle bar options for a rg and more room for adjustment to fit taller riders such as myself. Also add the harley wind deflectors and it will eliminate majority of the wind buffering. i had two street glides and i got a lot more joy riding my RG. The stigma that the fairing is out too far is garbage and is a non issue. A painted inner fairing will make the fairing and gauges feel closer. imo best riding bike i have ever ridden.

That said, the RGU is the most unique bike I have EVER ridden. Why? Because there's so little wind that I didn't need ear plugs, even at 80mph. I have NEVER ridden a bike at over 45-50 that didn't make my ears hurt so bad I had to put in plugs. Plus it's comfortable. Great overall bike, but I'm not mentally old enough to join the "Ultra" crowd.

The RG custom still has far better wind management than my Street Glide ever did. I fought the SG for three years and finally ditched it. Looked great, but the batwing fairing sucked.

Just a little taller shield than the toenail on the Custom and I'm good.

What he said...
Most folks gloss over the differences between the RG Custom & the RG Ultra.
They are radically different bikes. Beginning with the stance 1" lower + a 16" wheel in the rear and an 18" on the front.
Ride both because they are as different as a Street Glide and an E Glide Ultra.[/quote]

I am interested in the Ultra because I do travel long distances from time to time. I currently ride a Road King FLHR with an aftermarket fairing which I love. I also have a detachable tour pack and will make the tour pack on the Ultra detachable as well for when I am riding close to home.
Even though I really like my fairing, I think I would like it better if the fairing were stationary.
With all of that said, what is the handling differences between the RG Custom and the Ultra?

Road glides, they say the dual headlights are ugly, I can't see mine from the seat, I must not be vain. I can ride all day and not complain, this 2011 Road Glide Ultra is the best bike I have rode in 40 years, it is getting ready to turn 26,000 and not quite 2 years, and still work 40 hr weeks. Do yourself a favor and rent your own and test, not everyone likes them.

I test rode a RGU last month really loved the bike. I did ride one that had a wobble but only between 35-40 mph no where else. I could cruise at 80 with no hands, sampled it at all speeds under 90. Know wobble at all except 35-40 but it is bad at that speed. That was the only one they had so I haven't tested another yet. Other than that I was truely satisfied.

I have had the electra glide, the RGC & now have the RGU. Would not go back to the bat wing or other handlebar windshield.

Have to get the handlebars dialed in probably with a bar change, get the windhield changed to your and passengers comfort.

Check the RG forums website, I believe they have windshields to demo before you spend a lot of money on one.

Certainly the Road Glide is a more aggresive riding posn.
For the RG Custom, the stock handlebars are probl a perfect fit.
For the more laid back touring stance, I'm wondering how
Chubby 513's or 515's would work.

Years ago, I rode a Honda 900 with a fixed fairing. That ol crap
about the headlights not turning is Hooeey baloooey. The two
headlights on those Roadglides light up the road like a fricking
runway.

Even though I wasn't thrilled about the (short) demo ride I took
on a 2012 RG, I'm still very intrigued.
Need more time (weekend rental) to give it a fair shake.

3000 miles on my Road Glide custom. I have not experienced any wobble.
