I lived in SC where helemats is not mandtory except for riders under 21. My question is that my wife and I is planning a trip to FLA i want to know what style of helmet is the best for a long trip. lightweight and comfortable. Right now I have a old style icecream bucket style and yes it DOT approved. Just asking what type yall may wear and why. Thanks in advance
We are planning on going Orlando to meet up with a buddy I had in the USMC and havent seen since 97. Just sold a 49 pan and bought a 05 ultra so this will be the first long trip we will have on it. With the pan we had to stop boput every 70 miles for gas and now I can get close to 200 so just want something a little lighter weight. What is the name of your shop and the address if we get time may stop in and say hello
my wife wears a DOT half helmet, she has a visor that comes down about halfway on her face and puts it on if it is chilly or is going to rain, it screws on where the small black visor is on her helmet, we carry it one of the bags on trips. I wear a german style helmet, the windshield is plenty of protection for me, also a lot of people change their windshield to a taller one when going on long trips.
+1 on trying a bunch. They all fit so different. Flip down visors/shields are a great invention on helmets. I use full face, but I there are some cool half helmets with flip down shields/visors and what not
Do NOT buy before trying. I have a bunch of helmets due to that very reason. People are suggesting half helmets and that is my helmet of choice. Actually just a novelty non DOT. You do not mention what kind of bike you ride and the reason I mention that is there is a big difference between something with a fairing and one with just a windshield, especially when it comes to rain. I have a Road King and although my LRS greatly improves my visibility as it does not allow the rain to come onto the inside of the shield, goggles are another story. Once you get rain inside your goggles forget about visibility. I initially bought a FF modular because it is much more comfortable in cold weather riding but also great in the rain as water does not get on the inside of the visor.
