Sucks to hear about all your problems....from an observational standpoint it appears prudent to do one mod at a time with delay between each to evaluate equipment compatibility. Without intending to, and due to fund unavailability, there was a month or so between any mods Ive done and inadvertently done just that. If trouble codes etc occurred after awhile from each mod, it would have narrowed the variables to the last mod. So for this thread to be a cautionary tale to anyone doing research in the future, one should put aside the judgemental scorn and take from it to take your time between mods just in case you end up having problems......

I have to laugh when guys say these kind of things. It's like a threat and we should console and provide encouragement to stay. My response is usually.... great idea, please leave and don't let the door hit your azz on the way out.

Too much crap that you had other people messing with to blame anybody except yourself. Maybe if you installed each item yourself correctly you would know what is causing the problems. You claim you do all the work but somehow after 2 dealer visits you spent $1900. I am on my 2nd Harley that I customize and no problems whatsoever. I install all electronics so I know where each and every wire is connected and how they are connected. Not many people take better pride than the owner. And threats of I am visiting a Victory dealership don't mean much when you have been disqualified as an asset.

I put HD heated grips on, Dakota Digital gauges (all 6), Vance and Hines true duals and intake, PCV, and the Hog Tunes tweeter pod and 4 speaker set-up with lowers.

Now is when all the problems started. The TPS went out and the dealership blamed the heated grips. This happened when I was still stationed in Germany. HD refused to warranty it so it cost me about $700. They replaced the TPS and cut the heated grip wiring, disabling them. After they returned the bike to me, I noticed that my Dakota digital Tach had some burned out nodes on it, but since I was returning to the US, I figured I would get it replaced here.

Fast forward a couple of months and Dakota Digital sent me a new gauge, and I took the bike to Rommel's HD in Wilmington (formerly Mike's Famous). I told them the problems the bike had, and they looked into it. Said the heated grips were fried, and replaced them, and then said the new gauge from Dakota was bad as it kept blowing the fuse. Also, the badlands module for my taillights was now fried due to a brake wire they found rubbing the frame. They also replaced the right side radio switch which broke in two. They put the old gauge back in, and $1200 I was out the door.

Shortly thereafter, the cruise control went out, along with the new badlands module. I also supplied them with a new, bench-tested gauge from Dakota which, they said kept blowing fuses again. $235 later, I was told that the digital gauges are causing these problems, the led front and rear turn signals are causing the problems, and Harley is having issues with digital gauge set-ups (they warranted the cruise control switch). They told me if I try to get any more warranty work it will be denied until I put the bike back to stock. I threatened them with lemon law and they laughed and said all the "modifications" I made would rule in their favor.

So everyone, I am at a loss as to what to do. My old Fatboy is sorely being missed right now. Is anyone having electrical problems with the new bikes? I have the Dakota gauges still installed, with the tach that has the burned out leds. I am to the point of returning the bike to stock and selling it.

You know, one comes to these forums looking for advice, but it seems many members have nothing better to do than critique, criticize, or otherwise belittle the person posting. Little advice to some of you - I have been riding and wrenching longer than some of you have been out of diapers. I have ridden/owned BSA's, Triumphs, Honda's, Moto Guzzi's, HD, Kawa's, and other models you only can dream about. I personnally have logged over 300,000 miles, riding in all kinds of weather to include snowstorms coming across the Alps, a tornado in Kansas, and Hurricane Hugo in NC.

Some of you have good sage advice and that is what I came here looking for. I was wondering IF other people were experiencing like problems, and it appears they are. I am simply disappointed that I have to take my bike back to stock to try and find what is and isn't compatible. Yes, this is the MoCo's fault, and yes it is mine. I did not buy a Harley because I wanted to be the iconic leather clad biker (which sooo many of you strive to be) but to support the American economy when we needed it the most. I have sold more Harleys than some of you have even owned. Hell, I can still kickstart a bike -something I GUARANTEE most posters here have never done or even know how to do.

That being said, Victory's are nice bikes too. I can buy a top of the line Ness Touring bike for $25k, about the same price as my Ultra. Oh, I still have my panhead in the garage too so I guess I can still call myself a biker then huh?

For those of you with good advice, thanks, appreciate it, piece of raisin pie. For those more inclined to try and pick a fight, go wipe your nose, ask mama if it is OK that you go out for more than a few hours, break out your $500 HD rain suit every time a cloud pisses on you and keep your silly-azz opinions to yourself. Even better, get your damn bike off the trailer and actually ride it somewhere other than Billy-Bobs Bar and Grill where you sit and brag about what a bad-azz biker you are.

Good advice. I follow the same strategy when I upgrade my computers/servers. Quality control just isn't what it used to be. Everything is made in China/APAC now with cheap labor. Doing one upgrade at a time and allowing for "burn in" ensures years of troublefree operation. I think I may also go ahead and stick with Harley for all of my customization. At least then they only have themselves to blame if things go south. We have already found out that some of these "aftermarket" parts manufactures sell items with questionable quality(I won't name any names here).

I have a 2011 RG Ultra with 35,000 miles and all sorts of Harley mods including ALL led lights (Art work and led's in all the gauges), engine work, lots of chrome (I know that doesn't affect performance) 2 into 1 Rhinehardts, race tuned and I absolutely LOVE it and have had no problems with it. My dealer, Open Road HD is AWESOME!!! They do the engine work and "difficult" stuff but I put on most of the chrome and even removed all the gauges and sent them out for the artwork and LED's and did the reinstall. My Road Glide just keeps me riding all I want

I'm not in anyway an ASA machanic and not tring to claim I am. Some things I leave to my indy to do. I have a 2010 EGC and have had a fair share of probs with it. None of mine I will say, but HD said different. Even though I have proved them wrong, they still want admit it. I've had my bike for almost 3 yrs now. Within a week of haveing the bike, I installed apes, LED tail lights( not from HD), Satalite radio, and GPS, and the thingy that make your turn sigs tobe run/turn/ brake. Then *** fuse started blowing. I thought the wire in the LED was the problem so I cut them. Fuse still blows. Reinsall the LEDs, then thought the wires in the bars, pulled the bars and the wires ( whitch is a PITA) nothing wrong, reinstall the bars, fuse still blows. Finally I give up and take it to HD to see if they can find the problem.( still under warrenty)HD has the bike for 1 week, calls me a said they found the problem. Its the thingy for the run/ turn/ brake. They replaced it and billed me 300 bux. The fuse blows on the way home(4 miles). The problem is still there after 3 yrs, But I finaly found the cause, well kinda anyway. The ***. wiring harness under the switch console has a short somewhere. If I zip tie the wires up just right the fuse doesn't blow.
All of this said that its not alway your problem, so don't beat yourself up for it. It may or maynot be your doing at all.
Oh! and my ABS doesn't work sence the bike was new and so I just pulled the fuse. HD has worked on it 9 times at 3 different dealers without fixing it yet. Yea I know I'm going to crash and burn because of not having ABS. Well I'm 66 yrs old and this is the first with ABS and I haven't crashed yet.
Just saying, don't loss all hope yet. There may be a light at the end of the tunnel, and not a train.

What's the issue? Put it back to stock and see if the problems go away. If they do, well..... If they don't, then go back to the dealer with your lawyer.

Sad but true fact of life. Essentially ALL bikes, cars, trucks, scooters etc. are like that now.

The days of the shade-tree mechanic are rapidly coming to an end. For better or worse, that's just how it is.
