Default Stock pipes

Has anybody tried to take the baffles out of the stock pipes, and if so what do they sound like?

I just did mine about a week ago, to my 2012 103".
I didn't have the correct size hole saw to do it, so I took my torches to them.
Even with the CAT in place, they thump, and I do mean thump.

I had done this to earler years and it was pretty dissapointing, but these sound pretty darn descent.

If you take them off and look in them from the inlet end, they are a huge, open chamber, with a SS mesh covering a thin layer of batting, and with a helluva plug in the end of them. A person could even experiment with putting a length of pipe back in there (I didn't measure the diameter of the outlet but one easily could), once opened up to "tune" them to your liking.

Givin the fact people yank them off and go after market right from the get go, it's easy to **** a spare set, cheap, in case you ever wanted to go back to "factory".

I like the sound of the stock pipes without the baffles. I didn't have the tools to do my own so I just ordered a set from American Customs. They have a really great sound, offer interchangeable baffles and are easy on the wallet. They will either rework yours or you can buy a pre-made set and send yours to them for a core refund.

Running stock pipes (4") off a '99 RK with both the inlet plug and outlet plug drilled out and they sound "OK", but not great. Kind of blatty, but not horrible. Just invested in a set of Rush 1.75 slipons form a forum member and anxiously awaiting their arrival

I have, but Ive got the cat gutted out of it. It sounded like a car with the muffler that fell off.......rather cheesy. Might not be as bad if the catalyst is still in the header?

I had done both my 07 FXDL and 07 FLHT and they sounded pretty "cheezy" so I opted for aftermarket. This new one is a different animal, for the innerds of the pipes are considerably different. The 07's were chambered through out the pipes, even with the "plugs" removed. It's certainly worth the small investment to "try" versus spending the coin on the after market pipes to begin with.

My wife was setting on the deck last night when I came home from work so I had to ask if she could hear me coming, and she said yep, for about 1/2 mile so it has helped. They are not my 1st choice in tone, but they will get me though for essentially "free".
