Hi;
I am in the process of buying a used 2005 Road King Classic with about 22,000 miles on it. New tires, tuned up at 20,000 and the bike looks perfect and drives really nice. I have had various bikes over the years from a Gold Wings to Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 but really wanted to have my last bike be a Harley Davidson.
Asking price is 9200 which I feel is a really good asking price and will probably pay that amount but just wanted to get some input from anyone who has time to answer.
Seems like a fair price for a clean relatively low mileage RKC.
Don't know how much you know about the motor on this bike. But the '05 motor has the old style spring tensioned cam chain tensioners. These will wear out, and at various mileages. Some last 20k others 70k. If they go bad and break apart in your engine it is not good. I would ask if the bike has new or upgraded cam chain tensioners, or if they were inspected at the 20k tune up. If they have not been changed or upgraded you may want to counter at a lower price to compensate for the inevitable change out. Do a search of the site. There a many many threads on the subject.
Otherwise that sounds like a nice bike. Enjoy the King...I do.
Great bike,good price. Might as well make an offer a little lower if that is his asking price there is always a little wiggle room. You have nothing to loose and everything to gain. Good luck.
Great bike and a very reasonable price, any add ons would be even better - you better not drag your feet on it ! I Have an 04' put in gear drive cams as I didn't like the tensioners' design- major difference. Hope to keep this one as my last.
Thanks much for you advice and support. I am excited as I have been looking for a few months (taking my time as to make the right choice as that seems to be consistent theme from those on the forum) and this one really is the nicest one I have seen. I'll ask about the chain tensioners and see what he says. Seems like a straightforward guy so can't hurt asking. I will keep you updated.
this is a GREAT site and I have been reading many posts and arming myself with as much info as possible. Thanks again to everyone!
