I was riding east on I-10 in Arizona in summer 2010. I was coming up on a super cell and had to pull to the shoulder of the road because of the strong wind, hail and heavy rain. I took cover down on the right side of my Road Glide as the wind got stronger. The wind got strong enough that it began tipping the bike over toward me where I had to hold it upright till the cell front passed.
Is it just me or is weather events getting more extreme these days. Lots (and I mean lots) of rain, wind, hail and lightning. Two houses near me got struck by lightning and went up in flames last week. The storms we had this weekend were like 20 minute hurricanes! Makes ya think about global warming eh?
BTW, maybe it's the photo, but I don't see the bracket that is supposed to be there to support the cross-under pipe that connects to the left side exhaust. I see what looks like an indentation where it use to be, but no clamp. Is it there?
It almost made me sick seeing the bottom up on your bike I sure am glad that I don't live in an area with that much wind. Hope all is well with your bike!
Had a nice storm here Thursday, I think my cover may have played a part in it going ALL the way over. Didn't know it happen till my bedroom window blew into the house, than I saw my bike. Front porch roof fliped over the house and landed in my abouve ground pool. Some house damage due to water blown in from roof vents. Bike damage was minor, scuff the side rail at the bag and the lower edge of the side crash bar, bent frt brake lever in, and I think, but not check for sure bent the right bar up some cause it feels alittle off.
Well, now I know what the bottom of my bike looks like.....thanks. I guess your cover acted like a parachute in the wind and provided the leverage needed to push it over......wow.
Man that sure does suck. Hope you get it and the house fixed soon.
My first rain riding experience was a few weeks ago when a 70+ mph storm rolled through. I thought I could beat it home. I was wrong. I couldn't see anything and had to take shelter in under an overhang to a business. Had to leave the bike out in the middle of a parking lot. Luckily I pointed it toward the wind and she stood upright the whole time. Not exactly how I envisioned my first rain ride going but I made it through it.
