I've noticed that whenever i put my foot on the rear brake the tail light doesnt turn on the high light and when i try to get the cruise control activated while im cruising it doesnt turn on! could the tail light malfunction affect the cruise control? any recommended action? or should i just drop by the dealer?
Sounds like you need a rear brake light switch...Or a wire going to it has broken or disconnected...The cruise will not activate if there is a fault in the brake light circuit.
Obviously there is a connection between the cruise and brake circuits for the brake application to be able to cancel cruise. It might be related to the position of the rear brake light switch, or possibly its function.

Are you sure the break light is not ON all the time?
Take the lens cap off the back light and turn the bie on. Are both elements light? If so it is proabely the front brake switch not opening the circute. Also, if the brake light is on all the time the cruise will not work.

Thats it. Same thing happened to me. Replace the switch and you're good.
My '11 RKC had a recall on the rear brake tail light activation switch. Brake light wouldn't came on when using the rear brake. Don't know if your year model was affected or not but I'd check that out.
Hey, IDLH9143 is right about the recall. All of the touring bikes from 06 until Sept of 11 were recalled to replace rear brake switch due to being so close to the exhaust system. Saw it either in American Iron or HOG mag.
I took a 1000 mile trip this weekend .
Half way home my cruise would not disengage when i hit the rear brake petal and the engine RPMs go up.
Brake light dosn't come on, the brake works ok .
How much does a brake switch cost ?
How do i find out if my bike is elagable fore that recal .
