Default Getting Intercoms To Work

So I purchased the 2006 2nd hand, in super shape.

Wife has really taken to riding with me. Which is super nice since SHE is the one to say hey let's take the bike or why don't you take the bike out for a rip.

We've been loving it. BUT when on it...we seldom speak. YES we both wear helmets with face shields. Sometimes at red lights or in traffic she'll lean forward and say something. SO I'm thinking IF we had the intercoms working we'd enjoy the time on 2 wheels more. You know when you see something on the road that's funny or notice something etc and want to say something... well we lack that ability at this point.

I have the 1 thicker coiled cable that has the din plug on each end - but that's it. I guess you need 2 total? And I have no head-sets or any clue as to what else is needed to get the intercoms to work.

Anyone found or using equipment other than HD brand, I'm sure it's good stuff, that won't break the bank/wallet to get the headsets and what I need to work? Thoughts?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

No experience with them but a lot of people use the J&M head sets

I think you will need the 7 pin setup for your bike.
Other than that read the owners manual for all the ins and out of the system.

GMRO, first of all the obligatory, RTFM. LOL, now that is over, you need 2 headsets (with mic's) and 2 cords to connect the bike to the headset. As mentioned, J&M (forum sponsor) sells sets (I have 2 sets of their shorty style sets), IMC Moto (another forum sponsor) has a version (and allegedly makes the HD sets), and of course HD sells sets. Once you have the sets, then all you need to do is plug them in, and turn on the intercom (pretty easy, just hit the intercom button on the HK head unit, then hit the 1 softkey to toggle between on and off. Finally adjust the VOX to your liking, and enjoy the ride.

I recently got an 02 Ultra with the intercom. I ride 1/2, wife rides full. She was always asking me to turn up the music and the speakers were blowing me out just to get her to hear them from inside her helmet. I found a set of HD intercoms (cables, mics, speakers etc) for $100 on Ebay.
I just bought a Scorpion modular and mounted one set in it. We use them them on longer rides so she can listen to music and it is good to be able to talk easily on the road.

Plug and play.

The forum classifieds touring section frequently has headsets for sale---usually at a good price. My wife and I have used them often and they work great!!! FWIW I've used the headsets from H-D and they work good, but they weren't designed for half helmets
