Exclamation The COMPLETE oil change

One of our members (thanks Mark) informed me about this so thought I would share a video on it. I WILL be getting one. I selected 1 YouTube video but there are others. The bottom link is to the company that makes it.

Been discussed many times before on this forum, it certainly does what it says, but many question the real value because changing every 5K is really way earlier than the true life of the oil anyway.

I got this system first for my 07 Fatboy, my indy noticed how clean my oil was, after I had ridden 2000 miles since I had changed my oil and I was having him do my 103 build with 7K on the 96" motor. When I got my new 2011 Roadking, there was no way that I was NOT going to do scavenge oil changes on it.

So, a regular oil change is a filter and 3 qts of fresh oil basically. I doubt that many would opt to run their bike 3K to 5K and change their oil and filter, put 2 qts of fresh oil in their bike, and then add a qt. of dirty oil that they had from their last oil change for the 3rd qt of oil. A regular oil change leaves 28 oz of contaminated oil in the system.

Yes, it takes a little longer to do it this way, but when you see the dirty oil coming out in the process, that alone is enough to make me never do a conventional oil change again. I changed my friend's oil in his 08 CVO last week doing this, as well as my oil ( he is an exceptional mechanic and does ground up car restorations and engine builds ) he was very impressed, and will not go back to just doing a regular oil change.

True, i feel a 3 to 5K interval works fine, when you can get a "complete change" of oil, not so much, when there is 28oz of contaminated oil being mixed with the fresh oil.

I bought one of these years ago for my 1999 Evo. It works as advertized for sure.
I guess I have fallen in with the naysayers as to whether or not this is even important if changing oil every 5K miles or less. I dont like the idea of 28 oz of "dirty" oil left in the motor every change but I dont really think it makes much difference over the long haul as to engine life. Hell, half the Harleys sold over the past 5 years have less than 5K miles on them!!!!

I you have the oil temp gauge on the newer touring bikes, this set up wont work, unless you want to remove the oi temp sensor.

Exactly. I'll continue to use an oil temp gauge, an excellent synthetic oil and oil filter and I'll mix fresh oil with whatever is left in the crankcase when I drain it (not much). I'm not **** to the point of sucking each and every drop of old oil out of my engine, but hey, to each his own.

I don't feel it's a problem for me. HD oil filters are very good at filtering out particulates. I use the same oil (Mobil 1 15w-50) so there's no mixing of different oils. And used oil actually lubricates more effectively than clean oil, so leaving 28 ounces in may very well be beneficial.

From SAE International Technical Papers.

"In one of our previous studies it was observed that engine oil samples collected from fleet vehicles after 12,000 mile drain interval showed 10-15 % lower friction and more importantly, an order of magnitude lower wear rate than those of fresh oils....

...A fleet of three vehicles was run in Las Vegas and oil samples were collected at various drain intervals from 3000 miles to 15000 miles. As in the previous study, the results showed that the aged engine oils provide lower friction and much improved wear protection capability. These improvements were observed as early as the 3000 mile drain interval and continued to the 15000 mile drain interval."
