I was told by someone that all fluids are changed every 5k miles, not just the engine oil. Is that correct? The transmission and diff fluids are also changed every 5k? That would make the cost of the 5k service seem more reasonable but it seems awfully short intervals especially if using synthetics. There sure is a lot to learn before jumping in. Thanks for all the helpful and friendly replies to what I know are absolute beginner questions. This is one of the most user friendly forums I've ever seen.
It is also in the manual. They will follow the suggested schedule. The chaincase and transmission fluids are NOT changed at the 5k intervals according to my touring schedule. They basically change the engine oil and filter and inspect the bike. They may also adjust a few things like the clutch.

I don't have a bike yet so no manual however I may visit a dealer today and if it isn't crazy expensive might buy the manual to the SG while I'm there. Thanks.

Your $$ but I would hold off on buying a manual. You can view online and more than likely one will come with a used bike and for sure will be there on a new one.
I'm sure it varies depending on dealer but can anyone give a rough estimate of cost of the 5k and 10k services? From that chart it appears on a 2004 or newer bike you don't do the 2.5k services anymore, just the 5k and 10k. I'm sure the 10k is more since it covers more. Just curious roughly what to budget for routine service stops.
The dealer I use changed oil in all 3 holes on my 2011 Electra Glide Classic. That would be engine oil, transmission and primary chain case. If you've ever seen the oil in the primary chain case after 5,000 miles, you would want it changed. Some dealers will say they change transmission and primary on "as needed" basis. All 3 holes need to be changed every 5,000 miles in my opinion.
