I trailer bikes all the time. It is not a good idea to try two bikes in such a small area. Strap angles will have to vary giving unequal tension on either side of the bike and the bikes will be too close together. You are asking for trouble.
While it is possible on some 5x8 trailers, I wouldn't do it.
Borrowed a buddy's 5x8 utility trailer to get my bike to the shop one day.
While the bike fit on the trailer, I had to remove the ramp since it wouldn't close since the back of the bike was hanging over the end of the trailer; had the bike straight in due to wheel chock placement, and the bike is nearly 8' 3" long. Tying it down wasn't an issue as he had some tiedown points.
The real reason I wouldn't do it though, is that the 5x8 trailer just didn't seem stable enough with a 900lb bike sitting on it. I would have preferred another foot in width for stability, and I was only going about seven miles. I can't imagine putting two on it let alone going anywhere with it.
Like others have said. 2 touring bikes are probably too much for a cargo trailer.
I sold my 5x8 trailer because my SG would only clear the door by 1 inch.
Guess I'll be using the horse trailer if I ever have to trailer it.
If you even attempt that the chances of the bikes getting damaged is not in your favor. Either 1 bike at a time on the trailer or ride em both taking a lot of breaks.
