21 years on my Corbin that's on my Heritage. My Harley brand seats last me all the way home from the dealer...except for my new SG, I changed that one before I left
If the seat was ok before but now is giving you problems, it might be time for a new one. I don't know how many years they last because I seem to trade my bikes in before 10 years is up.
Rather than spend all that cash on a new seat, why don't you go to Mean City Cycles, http://www.meancitycycles.com/. I looked at quite a few seats when I bought my 08, spent hours researching and reading reviews and decided to keep my stock seat. I sent it in to these guys over the winter and in a very short time period, I got back the best seat I could have ever wished for. They listen to what you want and make it happen at half the cost of an aftermarket seat. I had both the riders and passenger ones done for around $325.00. The best money I spent on my ride. 21,000 miles and it's still as comfy as the day I got it!!
Well this is an interesting topic. My seat (the low version that Harley did a mid year switch to on the 2010 model year Ultras is now splitting around the backrest post hole. I'm kinda pissed. I stopped at seat repair guy in Sturgis and he said it'd just keep getting worse. The thinness of the vinyl is the problem. So now I'm thinking how Mich would I pay for a more expensive Harley seat? Are the Hammock seats made with the same inferior products?
Thanks to all the replies. The humorous replies too. I think the seat started to breakdown a couple thousand miles ago this spring. I just didn't recognize the clues. Sunday was a little over 300 miles in the saddle. Almost nonstop.
I asked the wifely to sit on the seat while I held the bike upright. She immediately mentioned it was like sitting on a hard surface with no cushion.
I considered sending it to Mean City Cycles because I've read of great results (and they're local for me), but my seat has a couple of tears in the vinyl. I read many favorable reviews regarding the Zeppelin and ordered it last night. It should arrive by next weekend.
I hope to feel better by the time the seat arrives. Standing, walking, and lying around is most comfortable. It's driving me crazy knowing I can't ride till I'm healed. If I don't show improvement by the time the seat arrives, I'll make that reluctant appointment with the doctor.
