A couple buddies who ride ultra glides are going on a long trip and invited me to go...I ride a 09 street bob with the stock seat. I want to keep running a solo seat but the stock one sucks and would consider a seat kind of like the HD sidekick as I think it looks okay, but I need something comfortable for the long haul.
I got an AirHawk for my solo Lepera Barebones and rode 1300 miles in six days up in the Smokey Mountains. They are pricey but well worth it and certainly not as expensive as buying a second seat.
You can get a Mustang seat for under $200 and it will let you ride all day and I do mean all 24 hours of the day and not have a sore ***.
The total distance might be long but the daily miles done on the seat is what you should be concerned with. By long ride what are you talking about? 200, 300, 500, 1000 miles in a day? A long ride means different things to different people.
See if you can find a stock Fat Bob seat on the cheap - I've ridden 1000 mile days on mine and its just as comfortable as my old electra glide and my back is F@cked up!
I think you have to try different seats to find which works best for you. I bought a Mustang Super touring for when my wife rides with me but for an Iron Butt last Sunday I put the stock seat back on and was damn glad I did.
