I normally put my helmet in my tourpak too, except when I am on an overnight trip and the space in the tourpak is too valuable for a helmet! That is why I got the HD helmet locks. I put them on the saddlebag guard on my '05 Ultra, but never really liked that location.
I took the orange reflector off the left downtube and mounted my lock there. The reflector is held on with two sided tape so it's easy to remove. I can lock two helmets on the lock and it is out of the way and not to visible when not in use.

I am guessing that you are camping in this situation? Ohterwise you would be in a motel room and your helmets would be in there with you.
Aside from this I sometimes use an inexpensive cable lock, the type used to secure a handgun. It is small and light weight and can be used anywhere.
I bought the helmet lock and then couldn't picture a place that looked good. I have the mustache bar front engine guard and went for convenience & put it on the right hand side and in fact it looks okay, plus it's a great spot for fishing around with the key. I tucked one under the left side of the seat on my old springer and that was a mistake, you had to be a contortionist to lock the helmets on, and even Houdini would have struggled to open the dang thing. I would think about the effort to get at the keyhole.
I have mine on the lower left-side crash bar -- in fact you can just make it out in my signature picture directly in line with the reflector. It works great there.
Another suggestion might be get a Kuryakyn Grip set and a set of grip end helmet locks. With the Grip end helmet locks, you can't even tell they are there. Look on eBay or the Kuryakyn site..
I'm also looking for something to lock my helmet on my RK. I like the idea of the HD lock, but I don't think I'd like the look of it on my crashbar. I'm thinking about going the cable lock route. Then I can use it to lock up my leather jacket too if I don't feel like carrying it.
