Well, at least the mystery is solved. I easily saw the detent on the outside meaning that the TP was back as far as it will go, at least in it's stock configuration. It would take a passenger the size of a dwarf to ride back there and be comfortable. I love the motorcycle but to me that is pretty poor planning on the part of H-D. I wonder if Willie G has ever had his wife sit on a stock Ultra with a back rest installed? And as I think I mentioned, my wife is not large. So, I'll be buying the extender that Kurakyn makes and pray that will give her enough room. For the life of me I can't remember there being that little room back there on my old '90 Ultra. Anyway, thanks for helping me at least solve the mystery of "was it" or "wasn't it". Just all part of getting used to a new bike.
Oh no, you've got it all wrong!! It's not poor planning on HD's part, it's brilliant marketing. It's just another way for them to make more $$. You know, kickbacks, percentages of Kuryakyn sales of HD aftermarket accessories. Anyway, I went that route because when my wife, who is all of 5'2", 120# wears her FirstGear overpants, she has less room to sit in. That, coupled with the riders backrest that I use, makes for an uncomfortable ride. The Kuryakyn TP Relocator is just the trick. DON"T buy it from Kuryankin though. The best price I found is on eBay Kuryakyn TP Relocator
Yeah, I think you've got it right--brilliant marketing. Good old American business, hah?? And the additional passenger footpegs?? Yeah, my dealer has already suggested that I might want to get those also. Never has been INexpensive to own/ride a Harley and seemingly it hasn't changed since I had my last one. Still, to me, it's the best looking, best sounding, all around fun motorcycle in the world so I'm just going to have to suck it up and do what I have to do. It is kind of a disappointing situation, however. Thanks for you input.
Works like champ and little lady loves it. The only thing I didn't like was the extra length on the bolts, but a dremel with a cutting blade made quick work of them.
I did both at the same time and It gave me more room also. So what is wrong with riding the bike with a woman's legs proped up at you're elbow? I like it.. Gives me something else to do......

If you are using the newer 2-up rack, you dont even need to give Kuryakyn your hard earned (or stolen) money. Just re-drill the mounting holes a couple of inches back and remount the tourpack. My wife loves it and shes off my back (literally).
I don't know, yet. I will, however, on the 7th when I have them and the Tourpak extender installed, plus the two plastic pieces which are supposed to help with the heat. I'm doing this in an effort to keep from taking my lowers off. My wife is roasting and it's just really uncomfortable for her. I fear than in the end the lowers will have to come off for summer riding just as they did on my old Ultra.
A relocator kit is avaliable form George Anderson that is much easier to install, cheaper and gives you the option of going 1.25" back or 2.5" back. Just installed on on my 04 ULTRA and set it to the 2.5" position, the bride loves it. It didn't change handeling at all that I can tell but gives each of you alot of room. I think it was like $110 delivered and he's a heck of a nice guy to deal with..give him a call at 309-762-6291 and he'll tell you all about it and says he'll take it back with a full refund if your not happy. I don't think he'll get any returns.
Just where and how are the passenger pegs attached? I assume they are for use in addition to the passenger floorboards?
The passenger footpegs attach to the stock passenger footboard bracket. Nice easy, clean installation. They fold up out of the way and don't interefere with just using the footboard.
