Hello everyone,
Just a quick question, I will be getting a new Electra Glide Classic, and after looking at some EGs with ape hangers, I really like the look but don't know how comfortable they would be for a rider who is 5'6" (5'7" on a good day). Anyone out there with my height who's riding with ape hangers I would like to know your imput. Thank you for your advice.
FWIW, I'm 5'9" (I gave up telling people I'm 5'10"!) with a 29" inseam. Not sure of the measurement, but the apes on my Fat Boy are right about shoulder height, and they are as comfortable as any bars I've ever ridden, including the SG stockers. And they look bad@ss! So far I'm staying stock on the SG because I like the hand protection offered by the fairing in cold weather.
After all, you don't drive your car with your hands at waist level!
Im 5-8 with 30-32 inseam and I put 14" apes on my RK. Made all the diff in the world. My wife whose 5-5ish I put 12" apes on her Yamaha and now she doesn't get pain between her shoulders. So I can say with full confidence that ape bars is a viable solution for comfort even for people of average height. I recommend whatever height your thinking about you add 2" to it or you will be saying to yourself' Man, I shouda went a little taller!'. Trust me on that.
I'm 5'8" on an 08 SG, had the 10" Yaffe Monkey Apes installed and LOVE THEM! The quality and finish are both excellent. I'm still running the mirrors in the stock location...this provides partial view of the mirrors, however, a slight movement of my elbow gives me full view.
I researched for probably a year on which to go with...there isn't another ape barset I would opt for. I'm certain others have positive experience with any variety of apes, this has been my experience, though.
My 5'6" Sporty riding buddy rode my SG, he also liked them...or perhaps he was being a supportive buddy, I don't know, but he said 'those kick a$$'.
I'm 5'6" on a 07 SG. I put 12" PYO bars on and have no problems at all riding. Long distance rides are more comfortable .. I love the wrist angle on my yaffe bars, they cost a bit more than some others; but well worth the cost!
i'm 5'6" riding a 2010 SG with a 2011 SG seat.... i put on 10" Yaffe Monkey bars and love them...fit me very well..much more comfortable then the stock bars,,,and the totally change the whole attitiude of the bike
thanks guys, I appreciate all the advice and suggestions. still a couple of months before I get the bike, (still deployed to OEF), but it's never to early to start planning for the look you want to achieve, right? ML&R Ride safe
