Also depends if you have recently switched to Synthetic like Amsoil, when I switched over on my metric, I was using about 3/4 to 1 quart every 2000 miles. I went in with some concerns and said it was 'normal' because the oil was soaking into the metal and would take a few more thousand to be fully absorbed.
I hope you don't believe that. If you do, do you want to buy some beachfront property in Northwest Georgia???????
Dude....either were not full as you think or you have a problem.
1500 miles and almost two quarts is not normal.
My experience From a fresh oil change to > over 3000 miles I need to add a little over half a quart. maybe near 3/4 of a quart if I push the oil change out to 4k.
I'd do that test again. Something not right. Don't go by the digital gauge if you have one. Use the stick reading.

Fully absorbed? In metal? I've heard it all now.
Completely disregard the quoted post. It's absurd.
Harley states a quart every 1000 miles is acceptable consumption so your in and around what Harley states is acceptable.
The question is has it always consumed this much oil or is it new. If it's new you have a problem. If it's always consumed oil at this rate then I wouldn't concern myself too much.

That is the funniest thing I've heard all week. Thanks man, you made my day!

Don't want to sound insulting but....That's some funny **** there....

Iv'e heard that before....but that doesnt make it true! P.S. harley synthetic doesn't do that. Its designed that way!
My 07 with 74K never need to add but my wife's 08 UC had less then 20K on it year ago and was burning 1/2 qt every thousand miles, well HD shop said its about normal according to HD guidelines but it shouldn't use that much oil in service manager's opinion. So I told him to the take top end apart if nothing wrong I'll pay the bill, long story short one of the valve seal was leaking and piston#1 rings lined up and stuck in same position ESP covered the stock parts and I paid the difference to make it 103" to save labor cost.
Not normal IMHO in 5k my bike might take a 1/2 quart of oil, no matter what speed I'm running and I do a lot of 80+ riding out here where the speed limit is 75 with most doing 5-10 over.

The part about what Harley states........is exactly what my service mgr said today. Again, just to clear things up, I use a dipstick, not a digital one. My brother and friend rode 3000 miles with me and never saw a bit of smoke. There is never oil anywhere around my bike. The bike has seemed to use this much since I bought it but never put that much in at one time, always a half qt here and there. It doesn't seem any hotter than my brothers 12 SG. Just not sure what is up. May pay them to dig a little deeper as several have suggested.
